Vermont Plants Sunflowers for Ukraine

Updated: Jun 11, 2022

*June 12, 2022 Update: We have now completed phase one of this action. We have now shared 10,000 free Autumn Beauty sunflower seed packets in every corner of the state. Take a look at our Supporters page to see who has helped us to achieve this goal. Now begins the part where we all plant and care for our sunflowers. We hope that there will be over a half million sunflowers showing their colors against our Vermont sky come late summer and fall. We are asking participants to make a photographic record of their support and to share some of those with us through the VPSU email. solidarity@vtsunflowers4ukraine.org

Right here at Fruitlands we have planted the seeds of a solidarity action to stand with the people of Ukraine at this devastating time for all humanity. Below is our mission statement and link to the VPSU Web site. Please consider supporting this effort by spreading the call to action, planting sunflowers at your home, school, place of worship or work place. If you live in Vermont, please ask your town or city officials to join in this action. Make your support clear to your state officials. Fly a Ukrainian flag. Last but certainly not least, please consider adding your financial support for VPSU. We are nearing planting season on this first day of spring, and we need funds for the purchase of seeds packets, bulk seeds, printing and outreach. No money through donations will go to any paid staff.

Vermont Plants Sunflowers for Ukraine is a Vermont-based community action group. Like many of you, we feel the weight of the crimes against humanity being perpetrated on the people of Ukraine. We often feel helpless, and that does not sit well with Vermonters.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our mission is to inspire countless acts of solidarity with the people of Ukraine by planting thousands upon thousands of sunflowers in every corner of Vermont. Come late summer and fall, our message of yellow sunflowers splashed against our blue Vermont sky will give us all hope. In ways big and small we will show the world that we stand with the people of Ukraine.
